Hussam Madi said the fasting of Ramadan has been more difficult than usual, amid the 100-degree heat in Kansas this year. "Last year, it fell during the time change, so the days were shorter," he said Saturday, sitting in his house near Andover with his family of six. "We would actually play soccer before we broke the fast. But not this year."
During Ramadan, Muslim traditions call for not eating or drinking, sunrise to sunset.
Ramadan changes each year, because it falls on the ninth month of the lunar calendar. That can cause some confusion for non-Muslims.
